Many states are increasing accepting the use of these forms of treatment as an option of convectional therapy. Next is frustrations of some convectional modalities that seem to take long to help. Others include the ease of availability and relatively cheaper prices.

The principles underlying the practice includes the firm believes that the body when given adequate support will eventually heal itself and there is no need of foreign intervention. The other principle is that the human body should be view as a whole consisting of the mind, spirit and body and there must be balance of all these for good health to be present.

There are about five major modalities that are employed in this approach. These include alternative treatment systems which include activities such as acupuncture, Ayurveda, chiropractic medicine and hypnotherapy. Acupuncture involves using sharp needles pierced on specific points in the body to bring about balance in the body energy. Ayurveda is an Indian traditional practice that aims at treating the body, mind and spirit together.

The second group includes biological based methods of treatment which includes the use of traditional herbs that have been proved to work from past experiences. Here specific parts of the plant are selected are consumed to bring about the desired effects. This method also include use of specific diets to help manage diseases like low sugar foods to control sugars for diabetics.Next are manipulative and body based methods that involves specific activities like massage where specialist apply therapeutic pressures into the body or specific parts with an aim of bringing relief from stress or fatigue and some form of pain.

There are also meditation and progressive relaxation methods that covers practices such as meditation common among Buddhists where the patients try to cleans their minds from all outside thoughts to achieve a form of inner peace that could give solutions to troubles that one may be undergoing. Prayer and having faith in supernatural beings can be considered part of meditation.

Energy therapy is based on the fact that there is a form of energy present in all living things. The energy can thus be influenced in cases of disease by use of magnetic fields to cure the condition. This happens through stimulation of an electric current that prevents noxious stimuli.

alternative healing modalities though not clearly understood in scientific terms is effective and has been shown to work in many people. It is now being slowly accepted and encouraged even in the fields of medicine as an option of treatment when available.
